Canada
Each of us has a unique experience of what it means to be Canadian. Here are some dimensions of life in this country that mean a great deal to me.

We know how fortunate we are in this country, where people, wilderness and knowledge come together in such extraordinary ways.
For over two centuries we’ve enjoyed elected institutions and freedom from invasion or occupation – partly because we’ve been willing to protect others from violence.
Canadians want quality education for their kids and to help those less fortunate than themselves: we want everyone to flourish – to have and fulfill their dream.
We all belong here. We respect each other. We share common goals. We treasure our two national languages and our diversity. Proud of our achievements, we are also honest about our mistakes.
We see the way ahead most clearly when we understand where we have been – our history as a trading country, a country of immigrants, a reliable friend and ally.
Every family is different. But the people we call family represent something essential to our lives. When we treat each other as family, we gain and we grow.
It’s now a cliché to say ours is a knowledge economy. But for Canada it’s true: our main challenge is knowing how to live better, work smarter, help more.
Canadians are a passionate people. We champion myriad causes – from local to global. We stand up for the downtrodden. We seek justice for victims.
Canada’s prosperity depends on our ability to sell worldwide – in Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Americas and Africa. We seek deep, long-term partnerships in every region.
Our country has been an uncommon act of creation from the start. To keep ourselves strong we know we need to be original – to tap into the wellsprings of the human spirit.
When we look to the future, we know as Canadians what a huge difference our individual effort can make to our families, our friends, our neighbours and the wider world.
